Higher horsepower, towing and hauling capabilities of modern vehicles make turbo-diesel pick-ups, SUVs, vans and delivery/utility vehicles especially prone to severe service. AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® Synthetic Extreme Pressure (EP) Gear Lube is a premium-grade gear oil specifically engineered for maximum performance in severe-duty applications. This state-of-the-art AMSOIL formulation features an exclusive blend of high-viscosity, shear-stable synthetic base oils and an extra treatment of high-performance additives. AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR Synthetic EP Gear Lube maintains its viscosity for long-lasting protection against metal-to-metal contact. The proprietary AMSOIL additives form an iron-sulfide barrier coating on gear surfaces, providing the ultimate line of defense against wear, pitting and scoring. AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR helps prevent "thermal runaway" - a phenomenon caused by a lubricant's inability to control friction and increased heat under high-stress conditions. By controlling thermal runaway, AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR Synthetic EP Gear Lube inhibits rapid lubricant degradation and component damage. AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR EP Gear Lube excels in hot and cold temperature extremes. By design, it resists breakdown from high heat, preventing acids and carbon/varnish formation. Its wax-free construction also improves cold-flow properties, improving fuel economy and cold-weather shifting.

Ultimate Cold-Weather Protection
Some gear lubes fail to meet basic low-temperature requirements. Mobil 1 75W-140 Gear Oil, for example, failed to meet the requirements of the industry standards, AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR®, on the other hand, delivers 20% more cold-temperature protection than the standard requires. It delivers better cold-temperature protection than Mobil 1 and Valvoline SynPower.

For product service life in non-differential applications, consult owner’s manual or the OEM for either normal or severe synthetic oil service intervals. Where service intervals are unavailable, drain at twice the interval for conventional oil.

Gear oils should be changed more frequently when operating vehicles or equipment in dusty or dirty conditions unless the gear system is properly sealed and equipped with membrane type breathers.

Note: AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where water contamination occurs. Check and service the gear oil frequently when water contamination is possible.

Recommended for use in differentials, manual transmissions and other gear applications requiring any of the following specifications: API GL-5, MT-1, MIL-PRF-2105E, Dana SHAES 234 (Formerly Eaton PS-037), Mack GO-J, or other GL-5 based specifications from vehicle manufacturers, including Ford*, GM* and Chrysler*. Can also be used in axles where an API GL-4 lubricant is recommended.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® (75W-90) provides superior performance and replaces competitors’ 75W-90 and 80W-90 gear oils. It delivers the best fuel efficiency and cold temperature performance of the SEVERE GEAR oils.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® is compatible with conventional and synthetic gear oils. Mixing AMSOIL gear oils with other oils, however, will shorten the oil life expectancy and reduce the performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed. Aftermarket oil additives, other than those specified by AMSOIL, are not recommended for use with AMSOIL gear oils.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® is compatible with most limited slip differentials. If limited slip differential chatter occurs, add AMSOIL Slip-Lock™ friction modifier additive.

Great for drive shaft bikes

Another great Amsoil product. I used it in my BMW K1600 GTL drive shaft. These drives can be a bit sloppy but it seems quieter and more precise since I put in the Amsoil.

Lubricated Feel

Replaced RCF TVD rear diff fluid with severe gear 75w-90 and I felt an instant smoothness when I reversed. It didn't feel stiff or feel as if there was any resistance. Gone 1000 miles so far and it still feels lubricated.

Harley Davidson Touring gearbox

I've been using this in my Harley Davidson Ultra Limited's gearbox since it was new in 2013. Started using it in 2006 on previous Harley. I could tell a difference immediately. Smoother shifting and confidence the gearbox was better protected than the OEM requirement of using engine oil in the gearbox.

Great

Ive been running this in both axles for 112,000 miles. I dont have issues with kicking it in 4WD in extreme cold (no 4WD button/knob in this rig). The rear locking Eaton differential works reliably with zero noise. I tow consistently and I tap shift 97% of the time I drive to avoid using my service brakes which puts extreme stress on my drivetrain (bought truck new, truck has 125K hard miles, original factory installed rotors & pads are still on it and only the pads have worn by 2mm max). I drain & fill the diffs every 45K and I only get metal dust at the plugs, no flakes. So, I would say its working well.

Differential Oil for Honda S2000

I switched from OEM Honda differential oil to Amsoil when rapsy metallic noises started coming from the differential after sweeping curves (street, not track etc.). The raspy noises disappeared immediately, and as of the 1-year mark, they have not returned.

2007 Harley's Transmission cure

I purchased a 2007 HD Ultra Classic in Nov. 2006. It was the first year of the 96 cu. in. Engine and 6 speed transmission.
In the first 600 miles I was bothered by hard shifting, and a noisy 6th gear. I found out Harley had used their 20W-50 oil in the trans.
At 600 miles I replaced the transmission oil with Amsoil Sever Gear 75W-90. Problem solved.
My bike now has 60K miles and the trans shifts beautifully with no noise.

can't do without

Ive been using amsoil for years in my bikes. As soon as I buy a new bike amsoil goes in it. Holds up to heat and the beating I put it through. Also quiets the trans and can find neutral a lot more easier. The only downside is its clear. Makes it difficult to see on dipstick.

I have a dodge ram 6.7 cummins 2500 4X4 Truck that pulls a 14k Fifth wheel. I noticed my rear end was chattering when turning on long trips. Acted just like it needed slip additive. All the info I could find said no additive. Dodge dealer wanted to do diff work...NOT 80k miles and no noise..

I decided to go up on wt. to 110 sever gear. All GOOD! Perfect! I tell everyone I meet to trash the mopar fluid if your working your truck.

my truck pulls a trailer that is right at its maximum gvwr. when it comes to the differential, i wanted the absolute best gear oil on the market. amsoil conducted a test on many gear oils available. severe gear scores higher over all [meaning average] when considering the all of 14 ways the oil was tested. for many years amsoil has conducted comparison tests of their best synthetic oils. amsoil always scores a higher average in the tests. i have heard people try and say their favorite oil is better than amsoil, but they cannot point to any testing that would support their opinions.

Keeps the lockers working

I have been using Amsoil exclusively in my 07 power wagon for over 2 years. With electric lockers front and rear, this is the only oil that keeps the lockers functioning perfectly. A lot of power wagon owners have issues with slow locker engagement, but mine engage almost instantly, and I no longer have foamy gear oil when I open the diffs.

Replaced the gear oil in my 07 f150 with amsoil and couldn't be happier. Pretty sure I even get a mpg or 2 better gas millage as well. Transmission also tends to downshift less going up hills. Next up I will be switching out the trans oil with amsoil as well.

Highly recommended for a reason

Great gear oil. Running it in both of my diffs with no issues for ~5k miles on the new truck (I know, nothing compared to a lot of others) and 30k mi on my previous Jeep. The gear oil smells rich (very scientific, I know !) and pumps great. Several years ago I was approached by an AMSOIL fanatic who I got a very MLM scheme feel from, but after digging in; I'm sold. Doesn't matter if it's a new or used vehicle, I make a habit of changing every fluid to AMSOIL. Regardless of if you believe the 3rd party tests, I like the peace of mind in knowing I'm running the best in my vehicles.

75-140 Gear Oil

This is the first product I started using in the Amsoil line. It is what sold me on the product. I was told the seal conditioners in the oil would help pinion seals quit leaking. They did! I have have absolutely seen increased performance from differentials using this product.

I want my truck to last

I recently replaced my engine and gear oil in my 2010 Dodge 2500 diesel and am hoping for the best. I tow a toyhauler and it is extreme in AZ in the summer so i am hoping these products are as good as advertised. Severe gear is great, been using it for years

I ran this oil in my old 2006 sillverado's differentials for over 200k miles and ever had to repairthem for any reason.

I recently put this in both the front and rear end of my 2014 Silverado. The factory oil in the rear end was much thinner and my rear differential was noisy. This oil cured that instantly and now its nice and quiet. Despite this oil being thicker than factory i have not seen any negative difference in fuel economy.

Used for a a 2015 Ram 1500. The old oil came out at 77 k miles. It was foaming extremely bad (air bubbles in oil). I replaced with severe gear and Amsoil's limited slip fluid.

I noticed smoother driving characteristics with the severe gear. The truck rolls better. I also noticed a 1 mpg increase in fuel economy.

Smooth Operation

I had this gear oil installed in my 1994 Ford Ranger XLT 2WD differential by a local repair shop. An inspection of the gear set revealed all was well. This truck has well over 200,000 miles on it and this marked my second differential oil change. My decision to use the Amsoil 75W-90 Servere Gear oil was based on the fact this truck hauls a wide variety of cargo (from rocks, wood to motorcycles) and I treasure reliability. After driving this truck for 23+ years, I've become familiar with it's sounds and feel and I noticed an absence of a slight howl coming the back of the truck at freeway speeds. No other changes or adjustments were made during the oil change and I maintain my own tire pressures. I look forward to not having to be concerned about this for another 100,000 miles!

Used this in my 18 Ram 2500. Reading some forums, some people had to use limited slip additive in their rear diff because of some chatter even though they have a torsen style limited slip with no clutches. I have not had any of this chatter with this oil.

Hard to know exactly how this will perform long-term, but since I have 100Ks of miles using all manner of AMSOIL products in cars, motorcycles, ATVs, tractors, and small equipment, I also have no doubt this is a top notch oil and I'll likely never have to replace this oil in my Outback again. I've used Am's oil for almost 25 years now in racing , hauling , commuter car and even my hoists use it . In all the years I've used Am's oil I've never had a component fail that was useing it . For the most part the higher initial cost is offset by the longer service intervals . At 30 below I've seen the Am's oil 5w30 and conventional 5w30 . The Am's oil pours nice and the conventional was like year.

30k Miles and Like New

Used this in transfer case and diffs of a 2013 FJ Cruiser for 30k miles. Vehicle is daily driver and upgraded and abused off road. Stock fluid after 30k was dark and separated in appearance. After 30k with AMSOil Severe Gear, the front diff AMSOil fluid looked almost new with significantly reduced metal shavings. The rear looked only lightly used with once again significantly fewer metal shavings. I highly recommend this fluid!

Excellent product that eliminated driveline 'clunking'

Replaced OEM front and rear differential fluids of a new 2017 AWD Subaru Outback, and refilled with this 75W-90 product at approximately 3000 miles. With OEM fluids, an infrequent driveline 'clunk' used to occur when making tight (e.g., U-) turns. This behavior has NOT occurred (in over 2500 miles) since after refilling with Amsoil's synthetic Severe Gear differential oil.

For our vehicle, changing out the differential fluid shortly after 'breaking-in' the differentials seemed to be a good choice (judging by the drain plug magnet debris). I obviously can't comment about product longevity, but with the elimination of an infrequent driveline 'clunk', we're extremely pleased thus far!

running the good stuff

I use 100% amsoil products. I have a modified camaro ZL-1 with 940 HP at the crank. The gear lube and engine perform flawlessly. I maintaing at least 3 to 4 lbs more oil pressure throughout the life of the oil. I will never switch brands.

Amsoil does not control friction modifier, so if you have a limited slip diff don't use the gear oil alone!!!!!!

I use AMSOIL for everything because AMSOIL is what is called a Reference oil. An oil that all other oil Mfr's aspire to be like. A bench-mark oil. Would not, could not use anything else!!!

No wear

Pull a 21000 lb fifth wheel about 20 percent of the time. Installed this in my differentials (4x4) at 30,000 miles and changed it again at 150,000 miles. Old fluid looked and smelled just like the new Amsoil I replaced it with. No metal on magnets no seal leaks. My truck's fluids are all Amsoil. Great products and so is the service.

I own a 2002 4 wheel Drive Chevy Tahoe. I'm a Tournament Fisherman, and I use my Tahoe to tow Thousands of Miles every year. I have Always used AMSOIL Series 3,000 5W/30 in the engine, and also use AMSIOL Severe Gear 75/90 in Both Front and Rear Differentials Without ever having any driveline Problems with my 14 year old Chevy.

Lasts longer than conventional gear oil-worth the added cost

Put this in my 1995 Corvette differential with limited-slip clutch packs. 10,000 miles so far and no issues. I purchased the AMSOIL synthetic product for its superior quality and long service life... will last longer and protect my vehicle better than conventional, so in the long run it's definitely worth the added cost.

The best.

I have used Amsoil products in my entire driveline of all of my vehicles and equipment for years. I run Severe Gear in the transfer case and both differentials of my truck, and the rear differential of my high horsepower car. The benefits are: smoother and quieter operation, especially in cold weather; 1-2 mpg increase; much better protection. I do not use extended drain intervals, but there is always that option. I'm picky about my vehicles, I use this for the protection, better operation, and peace of mind.

I would buy this product again.

My new F-150 only has 15k on it now and I still haven't changed the front axle but I did switch the rear over to 75-140 at 10k. Had a ford ranger that I bought new and switch it's rear to amsoil at about the same mileage. I used it for my lawn service runner. It was over loaded it's whole life up until 102,000 when I was hit and they totaled it. I sold that rearend to another guy that was going to rebuild it with a spool and deeper gears. He called me back and said it looked like brand new inside. Pretty amazing considering what that truck went through.

Great gear oil

I had got it to replace the old diff oil in both differentials in my 2002 Chevy Blazer LS, it works great, it accelerates smoother/ faster than the old oil, and it the vehicle had over 200,000 miles on it when I changed it, now it has over 201000 miles on it and it's still doing great!

Had the oil in the diff previously and came out slightly worn looking. 70k miles. Never had any issues so far with the Limited Slip Diff locking up. Using AMSOil transfer tubes worked well also. Just had the car on ramps.

I typically do most of my own maintenance, but due to time constraints, I had my mechanic change the oil in the rear differential on my 2008 GMC 2500 HD truck. The truck is used as a daily driver plus towing my 10,000 lb. travel trailer. This is the second oil change. Severe Gear is the RIGHT stuff

I used Severe Gear in my FJ, 3/4 ton Suburban and two Porsche track cars. It is the best gear oil out there. I use Amsoil Slip Lock with Severe Gear for perfect, noise free operation of a limited Slip in the track car. Works great.

Tough Stuff

Just want to point out to other enthusiasts that the AMSOIL Online Product Application Guide will show them the correct viscosity for their application and whether or not Slip Lock additive is required.
